Your Website...Winner or Loser?

Change Text Size Change Text Size Normal Larger Largest

There are two basic approaches to measuring whether your website is a winner or a loser.

  1. How does it perform as a business tool.
  2. How it is received by its target audience.

The following 10 question quiz will help you evaluate your site as a business tool.

WINNER / LOSER QUIZ
YES
NO
Your website is an important business building tool.
You are proud of the company image presented by your website.
Your site gives your company a real competitive advantage.
Your customers appreciate your website and visit it frequently.
The Web is an integral part of your marketing plan.
Your site generates a significant amount of new business.
You have clearly defined goals for your website.
Your website is meeting or exceeding its goals.
Your website is a profit generator for your business
Your website was a good investment.

If you scored 100%, congratulations!  If you scored less than 100%, your website is a 'loser' to some degree -- or if that seems too harsh, it's an under achiever.

If you ranked your site as ... an under achiever ... you can be sure that its visitors had already figured out its weaknesses long ago.

This next quiz will rate your website from the user's perspective.  We suggest that you give it to several people - company employees, customers and web-savvy associates.

USER SATISFACTION SURVEY
YES

NO

Does the website present a professional image of the company?
Does the site clearly identify the products and services that the company offers?
Can you easily find what you were looking for?
Is the information well laid out and easy to read?
Is it easy to find contact information (e-mail, phone, fax, and mailing address)?
Is the site easily navigated without having to use the ‘Back’ button?
Are company policies and guarantees easily located and clearly stated?
Does the site load quickly?
Is there a compelling reason for you to return to the site from time to time?
Would you do business with this company?

While this survey is admittedly basic, it does address the user issues that are considered most important.  Without doubt, the number one reason that websites fail is they do not satisfy the needs of their target audiences.

A perfect score may not guarantee success, but you must eliminate the NO's to have a chance.

It is relatively easy to get visitors to come to a website...once.  If you don't provide what they want or need, don't expect them to come back a second time.
